The Voice of the Child (VOC) is a general term used to define the important role of listening to and responding to what children and young people (teenagers) have to say regarding what is important to them and take their views into account and consider their wishes.

In capturing the child’s voice, the VOC can ensure that it is placed right at the core of any parental plan and decision-making regarding care and contact of the child during a divorce or family break up.

It supports how VOC Practitioners should interact with children and young people to ensure that their views and opinions are always considered when it comes to deciding on their futures regarding them and their families.

It’s about trust that must be demonstrated, in that they listen to children and young people, which is detailed in the Childrens Act.
